Diva Challenge #202: Copada and Chebucto Babysitting Blues

I started this challenge on Monday, and here it is Friday and I am finally posting...something...  I was excited to see two patterns from one of the artists I most admire in Zentangle Land - Margaret Bremner!  Her work is amazing!  Crisp and fully developed and perfectly balanced. Her tiles often take my breath away, and that doesn't even begin to say how I admire her beautiful ZIA work.

I had a vision in my head of something with a bit of red and a good amount of strong black.  I tried.  Tried again.  My sketchbook is full of pages of nopes and well maybes and ugh, not even close!  I felt like a frustrated babysitter who just could not get the kids to play nice!

I abandoned the task and thought I'd just skip this week.  My pride stepped in this morning and said you better do SOMETHING!

OK now, you two kids stand on this line face to face and don't move.

I did much better for the Square One Focus, which was Rixty.  I had fun with this one. I keep wishing I could do a paper pop-up for the second one.

And then I just did a couple more tiles that I figure I would add here just because.

  1. Each one of your pieces are gorgeous. I worked on black paper for awhile and it showed things a bit too shaky, so I gave up and went to color (distracts my eye). But your black and white is way cool! Love to stop by each week to see what you've been up to.

    1. Thanks David! I have had lots of experience with kids who don't play nice (babysitting and motherhood alike), so I recognized the feeling immediately!

  3. Nice tiles! I wanted to go more detailed on mine, but left it plain and simple because both patterns were new to me.

    1. Thank you, Suzy! I loved your orange and yellow, which worked very well on your simple design. I got so frustrated with this Diva challenge, I forgot about your "That's New To Me". I will start looking at those "U" tangles and get to work!

  5. Beautiful work, Antonine. Sometimes, when tangles just don't want to play nice, you must give them that time out. And, look what a wonderful result you got! Those Rixty pieces are stunning as well. I particularly like the second one as you let it get all wonky.

  6. Sometimes you just have to use a firm no-nonsense attitude with those kids. Lovely Diva challenge. Like the Rixty tiles and who says you still can't make the second one, which reminds me of Floatfest with a twist, a pop-up. It has been created and posted as a true Square One so now you can play with it. So glad you shared your just 'cause tiles with us also.

  8. Sometimes we just have to persevere, and totally go in another direction. What you did turned out well and you definitely got them to "play nicely". Like your 'Nzeppel tile. What did you use for the white? It looks very bright and is done well.

    1. Thank you, Donald! I used a white Gellyroll pen on the 'nZepple and the little bits of white on the background are charcoal white pencil.

  9. The things that look beautiful in our heads sometimes just can't be translated to paper! All your tiles are nice and I especially like your second Rixty tile. I didn't think it was possible to achieve that sort of forest look with Rixty!

    1. Thank you! I couldn't make my vision but I saw someone else's tile that was exactly what was in my mind. Glad someone got it!
